German style fried potatoes with bacon and onion. Gewurzhaus online store sell a delicious Bratkartoffeln spice seasoning (see ingredients below) and I would highly recommend grabbing this spice mix to add a bit of zing to your delicious fried potatoes.

Serve with whatever you wish; however I would never say no to a juicy roast chicken and some red cabbage kraut 🙂

Bratkartoffeln seasoning Ingredients:   Salt, coriander, onion, garlic, caraway, pepper, lemon myrtle, paprika, mustard seed, oregano, thyme, ginger, nutmeg, rosemary, marjoram, parsley








Bratkartoffeln Potatoes

  1. 4 large potatoes, cut into small cubes
  2. 150g bacon, diced
  3. 1 large onion, finely diced
  4. 2 tsp bratkartoffel spice (from Gewurzhaus)
  5. 1 tbspn oil
  6. 2 litres water
  1. Add potatoes to a large pot of water and bring to boil (potatoes to be only just slightly cooked)
  2. Drain and pat dry
  3. Leave to cool for a while (preferably in fridge overnight)
  4. Heat some olive oil in a large fry pan
  5. When hot add bacon and onion and cook for approx 5 minutes
  6. Set aside and drain on paper towels
  7. Reheat oil and add potatoes once hot
  8. Stir potatoes, cooking for approx 10 minutes (test the potatoes at this point to check they are not too hard in the centre)
  9. Add bacon in bacon, onion and add spice mix
  10. Stir for a further 3-4 minutes
  11. Serve
